Rocker JON BON JOVI has given an American footballer a musical boost after appearing on his new rap record. Former New York Giants star Famouz was thrilled when the Bon Jovi frontman agreed to perform on Bad Name, a rap makeover of the rocker's You Give Love A Bad Name hit, on the hip-hop star's debut album, Ghetto Passport. Ironically, Famouz once played for the Nashville Kats - rivals to the Arena League football team Bon Jovi owns, the Philly Soul.

By taking a country road instead of the Jersey Turnpike, Bon Jovi landed its first No. 1 album in 18 years.

Bon Jovi's "Lost Highway" (Island/Mercury Nashville) sold 292,000 in the week ended Sunday, according to Nielsen SoundScan, to give them their first chart-topper since "New Jersey" in 1988.

Album also debuted at No. 1 on the European chart and in Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Austria, Thailand and Japan.

Clear Channel radio station websites started promoting the disc from the minute it went on sale, by webcasting six live song videos, including the new single "(You Want To) Make a Memory." Band also performed on NBC's "Today" on the day of release; MTV, VH1 and CMT broadcast the band's "Unplugged."

Sales were boosted by a bundling of concert tickets and a digital download of the album. "Lost Highway" sold 32,000 digital copies, 11% of the album's total sales....

Before this week, it had been nearly two decades since an album from the Garden State's Bon Jovi topped the Billboard albums chart. And few might have guessed that drought would end with Lost Highway, the band's 10th studio LP, with the White Stripes releasing their latest, Icky Thump, on the very same Tuesday.

But according to the latest SoundScan figures, Jon and the boys beat the odds, shattering everyone's expectations as Lost Highway clocked sales of more than 291,500, giving Bon Jovi the third #1 debut of their nearly 25-year career. The LP brought in the group's biggest one-week take since Nielsen began tracking sales back in 1991; the band's only other #1 openers were 1988's New Jersey and its 1986 breakthough, Slippery When Wet.

The White Stripes' sixth LP, Icky Thump, is hands-down the twosome's best-charting release to date, bowing at #2 with 223,000 scans, and it's also their best-selling debut, surpassing the success of 2005's Get Behind Me Satan (which opened at #3 with 189,000 sold) and 2003's Elephant (125,900 copies, to debut at #6). However, the group may have to hope that album number seven is the charm for a #1 debut....
